WHO I AM
I'm Robyn Jackson. I've written 13 books, founded Buildership University, and spent two decades working alongside principals who were doing everything right and still couldn't get their schools to move.
The problem was almost never the people.
It was almost always the same thing.
The vision wasn't built clearly enough for anyone else to see it.
Once I understood that, everything changed. For me. For every principal I worked with who stopped trying to fix their people and started building what their people needed to see.
I'm not a leadership consultant. I'm a Builder. And what I teach is a different way to work. One where the staff moves because they can see the destination clearly. Not because they were told to.
This session is the fastest version of what I know.
The Wrong Path
Here's what most principals are about to do this summer.
Open a blank document. Pull up last year's SIP. Start writing goals.
The plan comes first. Then the goals. Then the PD calendar. The vision comes last. If it makes the list at all.
Before I go further, I want to say something directly: this is not a failure of effort. You work hard. You care deeply. You have poured yourself into building a school where every student succeeds.
This is a failure of sequence. You were taught to plan. No one taught you what to build before the plan.
I get it. I spent years watching it happen in school after school. Principal after principal who cared more than anyone around them and still ended up in the same place by November.
So August comes. Your staff gets the plan. The goals. The initiative. But they cannot see the destination. They do not know what success actually looks like. So they default to what they know.
Safe. Comfortable. Good enough.
The problem is simple. They cannot navigate to a place they cannot see.
By October you are chasing alignment again. Carrying the urgency alone. Watching good people work hard without moving in the same direction. Wondering if it is always going to feel like this.
It does not have to.
What Actually Works
A 100% Vision is not a slogan. Not a statement on the wall. Not a retreat exercise you revisit in August and forget by Halloween.
It is a specific, honest, clear picture of what success looks like for every student in your building. Built in precise enough language that your staff can see it, own it, and move toward it without being pushed.
When it is built right, something shifts.
Staff stop asking what the priority is. They can see it.
They stop waiting for direction. The destination is clear.
They stop needing to be reminded. The vision reminds them.
That is what Cheryl's three teachers felt the morning they came in early. Not inspiration.
